RS-1 Anionic Bitumen Emulsion Description
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion RS-1 is a fast-setting, low-viscosity, anionic emulsifier-stabilized bitumen emulsion. It is formulated for use in road construction and repair where it is critical to set fast and adhere strongly to the existing surface. Being a water-solution based product, RS-1 is safer to handle, simpler to apply, and environmentally friendlier compared to traditional hot bitumen or cutbacks.
Applications of Bitumen Emulsion RS-1
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion RS-1 is its primary use in tack coat jobs, i.e., application of a thin layer of bitumen emulsion on the existing asphalt or concrete road surfaces before the overlay is laid down. This ensures good adhesion between the two layers and extends the life of the pavement.
Other uses include:
Pre-tack coating before overlays
Low traffic road dressing
Priming the granular surfaces for roads with low traffic
Spray application in patching as well as sealing operations
Advantages
Rapid Setting: Sets and breaks quickly upon application, allowing faster construction timetables.
Low Viscosity: Offers easy sprayability and uniform coating at low temperatures.
Excellent Adhesion: Good adhesion properties enhance interlayer stability and prevents slippage.
Water-Based Formula: Reduces environmental impact and is simple to handle and clean.
Cost-Effective: Saves material loss and prolongs the life of the asphalt structure.
Packaging & Delivery
Anionic Bitumen Emulsion RS-1 is typically supplied in the following pack sizes:
Steel drums (200 liters)
IBC tanks (1000 liters)
Tanker bulk delivery
Delivery timings vary based on location and quantity of order, usually between 7–14 days after order confirmation.
Safety & Handling
Although RS-1 is a water-based emulsion and generally safer than hot bitumen, proper safety measures should still be observed during handling and storage. It is recommended to wear protective gloves and eye protection to prevent skin or eye contact.
The product should be stored in a cool, shaded, and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures, as exposure to such conditions can affect its stability. Additionally, RS-1 should be stirred or gently agitated before use to ensure uniform consistency and optimal performance during application.
