Anionic Bitumen Emulsion RS-2  Description

Anionic Bitumen Emulsion RS-2 is an anionic surfactant-stabilized, high-viscosity, rapid-setting bitumen emulsion. RS-2 is specially formulated for chip sealing and penetration macadam surface treatment. While RS-1 is mostly used as a tack coat, RS-2 is used on roads where the bituminous film must be stronger and more hardy. Its aqueous-based formulation makes it easier to handle and less of an environmental issue compared to hot-applied bitumen products.

Applications of Bitumen Emulsion RS-2

Anionic Bitumen Emulsion RS-2 is ideally suited for chip seal and surface dressing where a thick, rapid-drying film is required to lock aggregates in place well. The higher viscosity ensures better aggregate retention on the road surface, and hence is ideally suited for low-traffic highways, rural roads, and maintenance operations.

It is also employed in the following routine manners:

Single and double surface dressing

Construction of penetration macadam

Fog sealing and patch repairs

Prime coat on water-absorbing bases

Aggregate retention in sprayed applications

Steel drums of 200 liters

Bulk delivery via insulated tankers

Delivery times depend on destination and quantity, normally within 7–14 days from date of order confirmation.

Safety & Handling

Even though RS-2 is safer to handle compared to hot bitumen as it is water based, there are some practices which need to be followed while handling it. Always guard against direct eye or skin contact by wearing clothes, gloves, and goggles. Keep stored in a shaded, ventilated area away from the sun and freezing temperatures. Before use, gently stir or agitate the emulsion to test for homogeneous consistency for best performance.
